This was by far one of my most favorite exclusives to date. American singer-songwriter JTronius and British producer Maverick Quest make up the Trans-Atlantic duo Sons of the Sun BBE Music’s latest release. I had the pleasure of catching up with the guys AND Peter Adarkwah, President of BBE Music, who was instrumental in polishing off their album and soulful single Underwater Dreaming released today. I’m also loving the black love themed video it’s my Jam of the Week!!
If you’ve ever heard the term “Get Your Life” but you weren’t sure what that meant or how exactly to do it, pay attention. Below Monica outlines a step by step guide for being the best version of yourself and how to take control of your personal legend. I’m not sure if Monica knows what a powerful impact that this interview will have on some of us, but then again she probably does because she is fully aware that she is living and walking in her purpose. She states, “Part of my purpose is to touch people and to let them know that they can get through because I got through…”

What do you do to relax and help you write? - Antea, Detroit
Jaheim: If I want to write a good song I'll drink some tea with honey and ginger, then I will light a candle and I'll just think. The first thing that comes to my mind I write about it. I think when you get writer's block you're tired you need to get a snack, take a break, lay down for a few hours, you're thinking too much you might be stressed out. If you have a good writing partner, it's always good to have more than one person writing with you, if you get stuck it's still your idea but you have someone around you to help you to get it back on track.
Did you know that at some schools have music programs so advanced that you can possibly take a class studying some of your favorite artists of yesteryear AND today? Well introducing one such institution, my alma mater, Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where along with classes like
‘The J Dilla Ensemble’ and ‘The George Duke/George Benson Ensemble’ you can now enroll in ‘The Dwele Ensemble.’ If just this class wasn’t enough to get you excited, check out the teacher Tia Fuller.
KP: Walk us through you evolution in music... From the inside looking out, What has it been like for you?
K: Starting out on my own label those were some fantastic days. I didn't have this big vision to have a record label, I just wanted to put my CD out, as a result I ended up setting up distribution for myself, putting CDs in stores on consignment, learning how to purchase my own bar code, trademarks and copyrights. All of this infrastructure had to be set up for which I had no training for, it was like on the job training by default because I wanted to put my music out. I was going to the P.O. Box getting checks for tens of thousands of dollars from people and I was waiting tables. It was really an amazing time. I think it really laid the foundation for the success that I've been able to have almost 15 years later since my debut album…
