OMG YOU GUYS!!!!! This was the most fun I may have ever had at a concert. It was literally what it sounds like. Stevie Wonder threw a singalong party and invited a few thousand of his closest friends! He opened with "As If You Read My Mind" a touching ballad and we all sang and swayed. AND THEN we took off like a rocket, I think I danced for the entire show (good thing I had an aisle seat) slow jams like "Ribbon In The Sky" and "Overjoyed" were welcomed sit-down breaks, as I clearly needed to recharge for the next round. Stevie thought this thing out properly. Clearly, he had me in mind.
This inspirational dance tune captured my heart from the first line, “She said baby don’t let this world pass you by, get on out there and participate in life…” I hate to be dramatic but seriously the lyrics and musicality of this joint are so clutch!! Monique’s vocals are like a hot knife melting whipped butter onto the track, and as dominant as her voice is, it’s simultaneously angelic. Her intonation is like a breath of crisp fresh air, it’s uncanny. After you get over the gorgeousness of that voice and the catchiness of the bassline groove, you start to notice the subtle yet ever-present sound of the bongos driving everything home, almost as if war drums commanding that you keep going full steam ahead.
I was scrolling through Facebook one 4 a.m. insomniac night and came across a video of a sweet face girl with wild natural hair and a guitar. OF COURSE I’M CLICKING ON THIS!!! This gorgeous doll did one of the most beautiful renditions of a Stevie Wonder song that I have ever heard. There I was laying in my bed in the middle of the night/morning in complete awe. So, I went down the rabbit hole of Victory Boyd Youtube videos and became an instafan! Then wait..what!?! Did this page just say that she was performing in MY city the next week? I immediately purchased tickets for the show.
