Playlists are great but they are not as purposeful as a good old fashion mixtape. Mixtapes are a lost art but they shouldn't be, the act of psychically handing someone a compilation of songs that you specifically picked with an intent in mind... *swoon* I don't know about you, but that's my love language. Seasons Tidings everyone!!! Et Voila! After careful deliberation, I’ve compiled my all of my favorite songs back to back that only get played (if I’m lucky) 3 months out of the year. I MUST hear ALL of these in order to get my holiday cheer on. As long as I hear them at some point, that is present enough for me… well I mean that figuratively of course!! ... I'm not even going to lie, I was in a dark place when I made this one. LOL but I'm gucci now s'ok! This one is self-explanatory sometimes you just need music to help you navigate through painful emotions. Healing can only come if you do the work of moving through your feelings. At the end of the day it's about self care, you have to do what's best for you. No matter the consequence take care of #1. Grab a box of tissue and a glass (or 3) of wine for this one. It'll get better.

Listen… put this on to clean your house, run your errands, grab your coffee, drop the kids off at soccer, or tackle whatever task you need to complete. True confession: I am THAT person that you see singing… no, performing in her car when you’re stopped at the light, or driving down the street, or on the highway, or parked at Target, or… ok you get the point. I made this specifically for Saturday Mornings to make sure I started out with an energy charged, get your mojo going, music pumping day. P.S. it’s also awesome to dance to alone in the mirror any night of the week… ya know if you were into that sort of thing. 😉

As you can probably guess by my alias (MotownGirl,) Detroit raised me, bred me and will always be home. If you aren’t familiar, WhatUpDoe is the official proper greeting of the D. Nothing feels better than being out of town and receiving an authentic WhatUpDoe from a stranger, it means that you have found your people. I travel all over the globe and no matter what there is always a love for Detroit that can never be matched. This is my love letter to my city. This compilation is just a fraction of my favorite hip hop from Detroit. This also serves as my official my welcome invitation to you.
Hello Africa
GHANA IN DECEMBER!!!!! Ask anybody about it! I started this mix when I was on my way to the motherland for the first time. Then I touched down in Accra… Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnn this is partying on a whole different level. One day we didn’t get to party #4 until 4a, and when we left at 7a it was still jumpin’. There was so much dancing and amazing music it was truly soul-stirring. So when I got back home I looked up every song I Shazamed and I’ve been rocking them ever since. Every time I visit I add more songs, if it got me on the dancefloor I put it on here. I also did some research and wanted to feature artists from as many countries as possible. If “WhatupDoe” is my love letter to Detroit “Hello Africa” is my WhatsApp chat to the continent. I hope you enjoy and share more artists to add!
Old School
I felt like I was in a trance when I made this one… believe it or not I made this entire list of over 150 songs in one night! I went down memory lane blasting every vanglorious joint, next thing I knew it was 6am! I was transported to watching “The Jukebox Network” later to become “The Box.” This list is so nostalgic and feels incredible (to me). Do me a favor and add this in your rotation for the next get together watch all the OOOOOOH SNAAAPPs, YOOOOOOOO and WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTs you drum up. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
